"Ask For God's Help"

"You want what you don't have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous for what others have, and you can't possess it, so you fight and quarrel to take it away from them. And yet the reason you don't have what you want is that you don't ask God for it."

James 4:2 (NLT)

We usually try to get what we want by ourselves. We think, I don't need to bother God with this. I'll just do it myself. We try going about getting what we want the wrong way, or by taking short cuts. Like, lets cram for a test and then wonder why we failed it.

Like I've said before, God wants to give us a great life NOT an EASY life. If we pray and ask for better grades, He will help us to retain what we're studying and maybe give us ideas on how to study better.

Think about what you've been trying to do by yourself. What problem have you been trying to solve? What friendship have you been trying to repair? Today, try it God's way. Write in your journal what you're struggling with and ask Him to help you with it.

Let's Pray:

Lord, I've been trying to solve all this on my own. I've been trying to make everything work out by myself. Today I'm asking for you to help me with ( tell Him what it is) In Jesus' Name, AMEN.

Send me a comment or prayer request or just let me know what you thought of this post!

Day 3: "Prayer for My Heart's Desire"

"But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father."
John 15: 7 & 8(NLT)

Let's Pray

Lord, Thank you for your promise that if I remain in you and your words remain in me, I can ask for anything I want and it will be granted. I pray that you will help me to do good things with my life so that I will be your true disciple which will make you really happy. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Let's Talk

So here's a question for you to think about:

Do I believe God wants to answer my prayers? John 15: 7 & 8 tells us that he does. Here's another question: Do I believe He wants to give me a great life? YES, HE DOES!

The problem is that sometimes our idea of a "great" life and His idea don't match up. That doesn't mean we shouldn't tell Him the desires of our hearts. It says in Psalm 37:4 "Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart's desires." If we're honestly seeking to follow God, he wants to give us our heart's desires.

What do you desire in your heart? Great friends? Fun Parents? A cute boyfriend? Acceptance from your parents? More affection from your parents? No more fighting at home? Friends who don't stab you in the back?

Write out your heart's desires in your journal and start asking God for help.

We'll talk more about this next time. Today, I just want you to start writing in your journal what you want and don't forget to thank Him for what he has already done.

Don't forget to send me a comment so i know you're visiting the blog!!! : )

Day 2: "Prayer For Doing Great Things for God"

"Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. "
John 15:5 (NLT)
(this is our memory verse, too. Starbucks cards for anyone who knows the verse next week : ))

Let's Pray:

Lord, Thank you that you are the vine and I am a branch. Please help me to remain in you so then I will produce much fruit. I know that apart from you I can do nothing. Lord, help me to stay connected to you everyday through reading in the Bible, and talking to you. Lord, help me to feel you near me today. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Let's Talk:

I've talked about this before that if we don't keep our cell phones charged, they die. If we don't keep plugged into God, our connection to Him will die. I'm not saying we will loose our salvation. I am saying that if we stop talking to God and reading His word to help us know what is right, our faith will whither and deteriorate.

If life is hard right now, if school is grueling and overwhelming, if home life is falling apart, if your friendships are fake or seem shallow; maybe its time to talk to God about it, get connected to Him. After all, He wants you to ask Him for help. It says in the verse that if we remain in him (stay connected) then we will produce much fruit(do good things) with our lives. God wants you to have great friendships, excel in school, and have a solid family!!! He is waiting for you to talk to him about it.

If you want to read about something even better that He wants to do; look up John 15(the verse above) in your Bible and read down to verse 7 & 8. His promises get even better!!!

When you comment back, tell me what you think about that verse. Come back tomorrow, I'll post a very important question for you that will radically change the way you think about God.

Day 1 "Prayer For Our Thoughts"

Let's Read: (Look up Romans chapter 12, verse 2)

"Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is. "
Romans 12:2 (NLT)
Let's Pray:

Lord, I pray that you will help me not to copy the behaviors and customs of this world, but help me to let you transform me into a new person by changing the way I think. Then I will know what you want me to do, and I will know how good and pleasing and perfect your will really is. Today, while I am at school, help me to remember that you are the one doing the changing in me and I am doing the cooperating. Thank you! In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Let's Talk:

I encourage you today to look up this verse and highlight it in your Bible. It helps us to know that we are not the ones who are making the change happen, its God doing the changing.

Let me be straight with you. If you are thinking in your head that you're dumb or you're not going to do very well on your test, or no one is going to want to sit with you at lunch; GOD IS NOT THE ONE TELLING YOU THAT! He would not put those thoughts in your head. So the next time you start thinking negative thoughts, STOP, say to God: "Please take away these thoughts, Lord. Help me by changing the way I think!"

Send me a comment and let me know how you liked this devotional! I'll post a new verse and prayer each day. C u tomorrow! : )
